Re: [ED4] Astral Interference

You should quote the ENTIRETY of the text for Steel Thought, rather than selectively. The adept resists magical abilities that target his Mystic Defense. Any time he is targeted by such an ability, the adept may make a Steel Thought test against his opponent’s test result. If successful, he reinforc...

Re: [ED4] Astral Interference

More exposition: AI is a miasma that affects an area; it can be eliminated in its entirety with Dispel Magic. BS is a spell that allows one or more people to see through the miasma - it does not prevent AI from affecting the targets, it eliminates the penalty from AI on those targets; it can also be...

Re: [ED4] Astral Interference

Good link. A lot of noise in there, though, as there was a lot of analysis and discussion on individual words used when describing various things. Here would be my summary of the thread (feel free to read it yourself): - AI affects the caster - AI doesn't move with the caster (it sits in the area wh...

Re: [ED4] Astral Interference

Time to plan is ALWAYS a good thing. Mechanically, I don't see a problem with Baseline Subtraction (BS) first, followed by Astral Interference (AI). Thematically, my preference would be the opposite. Allowing BS->AI implies that all AI is exactly the same - which is okay, maybe it is! However, that ...

Re: [ED4] Astral Interference

For the record, I am not big on the 'strict' reading of the spell. It just doesn't make sense for me. Thematically, Baseline Subtraction allows those affected by the spell to 'see through the noise' caused by Astral Interference (AI). As a result, it would make sense that THEIR Spellcasting tests wo...

Re: [ED4] Astral Interference

Astral Interference: The adept increases the local astral background interference to make spellcasting more difficult. He makes an Astral Interference test against the highest Mystic Defense within Rank x4 yards. If successful, a shimmering wave emanates from the adept to cover the area. All Spellca...

Re: Does passing through an "area denial" spell trigger dama

I guess the summary for I'm saying is: Spells that affect an area affect all people that enter or remain in the area, regardless of whether they were there at initial casting, unless the spell explicitly says otherwise. The TMD for casting is just to determine if the spell can manifest in that area ...

Re: Does passing through an "area denial" spell trigger dama

You determine targets when the spell is cast. This is true for most AoE spells. Everybody that enters AoE and wasn't one of the initial targets remains unaffected I do not believe this is true. Uneven Ground: If successful, the ground lurches suddenly and violently, causing affected targets to beco...

Re: Is a recovery test a "toughness-only" test?

Slight subtly - I think most old actions that were "Attribute-only" tests were eliminated, but I don't think that there are NO more Attribute-only tests. If you're lifting something over your standard max allowance (thinks someone trying to hold open a closing gate so his companions can ge...
