Re: Questions and answers...

Seconded on that! Tactical maps are fine if you want them, but one thing I love about Earthdawn is that they've never been necessary . Combat is more descriptive, and there's a lot of just.. reasonable assumptions, like if your opponent runs around behind you, you probably turn to keep facing them, ...

Re: Let's Talk About Forge

It's an interesting Talent in that it's almost the only one that's always been written with some assumption that it will actually be handled by an NPC -- but since there are PC Weaponsmiths, because Earthdawn does a better job than almost any other system at not enforcing an artificial divide betwee...

Re: Eleventh Hour Preview: Wizard

This is something I mentioned earlier in the thread but people don't like the notion of having Matrices as separate, even though in story terms they aren't core to Spellcasting Discipline and secondly there are already heaps of abilities outside of Spellcaster Disciplines like Familiars, Spell Matr...

Re: Eleventh Hour Preview: Wizard

Perhaps we've got a solution looking for a problem? I really don't think so. If you start at the beginning of the thread, you'll see that we definitely started with a problem, and have since spent like ten pages trying to figure it out. If we'd had a solution in the first place, somebody probably w...

Re: Eleventh Hour Preview: Wizard

I'm most decidedly not an engineer, and I followed it just fine... but that's not to say it wasn't overcomplicated. (My favorite magic system ever is from Torg. There was a system that made you feel like you were really designing spells! But it's probably not something to strive for.) I don't know a...

Re: Eleventh Hour Preview: Wizard

Raw Casting is an option in the world, but in the game , it's really not. Maybe in one of those awesome Sacrificing Your Character To Save The Village type scenes, but generally, just no; nobody does it, except occasionally in really Safe areas, which in turn usually means you're in "Downtime&q...

Re: Fourth Edition Preview -- A whole lot of talents

Is it acceptable for GMs to have players die in combat? I don't know about players , but player characters, sure. Oops. Somebody couldn't have clarified this maybe last week? I love knowing my character could die. I hate it when they do . Whoever said "There's just no pleasing some people"...

Re: Eleventh Hour Preview: Wizard

Oh. Oooh, even. Keep Matrices as a Talent, but collapse them into just a couple of Talents, with a good reason to improve them.. and, if giving every Talent dice is a design plan, incorporate Lou's suggestion. That's lovely. Rags? As the Official Bestower of Brilliance Recognition (I appointed mysel...

Re: Let's Talk About Forge

It seems like a lot of that is going to fall into how you handle downtime, and how much your GM is using that as a control on the game. But remember that the weapon's base Damage Step doesn't limit its Forging potential anymore, either -- so if you start with a 2 Handed Sword (Step 7), and increase ...
