Re: Advice for a new player/gm

First of all, welcome to the fold. I would say one of the biggest high points for the system is also one that trips up most newcomers; the Step System. Most players are used to other systems that modify the end die result. Here, you change the Step which then modifies the actual dice being rolled. I...

Re: [3rd Edition] Archer and Wizard Optimization help

Sorry, but I've got to agree with Mataxes on this one. D&D wizards may have slightly more variety to their spell lists than Earthdawn Wizards, but that also neglects that Earthdawn Wizards get Talents. Once you factor those in, it really boils down to flavor, and the Shaman does not fit the same...

Re: [3rd Edition] Archer and Wizard Optimization help

If you've got Talent Knacks on the table, since you mentioned control for the Wizard, they may seriously want to look at Subliminal Mutterings (I think that was still available in 3rd Edition. I play Classic primarily and don't have my books with me at the moment, so I can't be 100% sure). Essential...

Re: [3rd Edition] Archer and Wizard Optimization help

What races you pick for each Discipline could factor in as well. An Obsidiman Wizard, for example, might be able to tank his way through some of the combat at low Circles (probably not all the way to Journeyman, but probably first, second, and maybe third circle if you pick your skills right). There...

Is it wrong that when reading that I automatically replaced cactus with Blood Elf?

Re: On thread magic

Three friends both trusted and powerful enough to protect the pattern items. You can trust someone all day long, but if a Horror gets hold of just one of them (the item and/or the person), the results would be quite disasterous. And since the friends would need to be adepts in order to weave threads...

Re: [ED4] Matrices

... equating Versatility to thread items is not a good way to justify allowing all of the spell matrices. My point wasn't equating Versatility to thread items, my point was equating spell matrices gained from one source (Versatility) to spell matrices gained from another source (Thread items). Give...

Re: [ED4] Matrices

I personally wouldn't put any restrictions on picking up matrices through Versatility. There are far, far more useful Talents to be using Versatility on, especially since you can pick up additional matrices with Thread items. If a player really wants to spend their primary racial advantage just to h...

Re: Windlings, knockdown and falling damage.

What Mataxes said. Game stats are arbitrary numbers made to streamline physical concepts so they are in the same relative frame of reference and quick and easy to figure out. You could do all the equations necessary to figure out real values for everything you encounter, but at that point you're no ...
