Re: Combat options

As I've said before, I'm not a fan of growing close combat to make it more 'realistic'. Enhancing close combat tends to penalize ranged/spell combat. Sticky combat is a great example - it basically become "haHA, squishy one! I have run up to you and engaged you, now you must take penalty to lea...

Re: Annoying Plant Feast

I don't think parties feeding themselves exclusively with Plant Feast is out of bounds. The spell explicitly states that it is as nutritious as the original, so even if the juicy ground beef as been replaced by mildly repulsive brown twigs and berries, it still gives you all the macro and micro nutr...

Re: Combat options

Option 1: Use existing stuff. Offensive social Talents/Skills to harass the PCs enough with penalties that they feel they must address the mooks, or use Knockdown attacks/abilities like a mad person. Option 2: Adopt a 'sticky combat' house rule that keeps people from easily moving past/out of close ...

Re: The Threadweaving tax

I believe the maneuvers section also has a prologue describing how the cost works - basically a summary statement saying "maneuvers cost extra success, making those successes unavailable for normal use." That's really all I'm expecting similarly for Knacks. For Knacks, since it will be rep...

Re: Heat Armor

Hijacking the thread somewhat: what are people's opinion on targeting for this spell? The text clear indicates that the wearer is the target, not the armor itself: The magician rubs his hands together and makes a Spellcasting test against the wearer’s Mystic Defense. If successful, the armor quickly...

Re: Magicians Casting Buffs On Teammates `From Behind'

Personally, I agree, etherial. The goal of Chain Casting is both to throw the magician a bone as well as to minimize rolling. Throwing in an additional roll is kind of reducing the effectiveness of this - BUT, if someone feels that Chain Casting is too powerful and want to balance it, this could be ...

Re: The Threadweaving tax

Separate but related thought: with the use of extra successes for a variety of things in ED4 and the loss of distinction on Good/etc results, I think the ED4 Player's Companion is going to need a new system to indicate when extra successes are required strictly to power the Knack. Doing it each time...

Re: The Threadweaving tax

Personally, I agree with you on the Strain cost, Rags - magicians don't have the skin to throw around like their counter parts. The issue starts to dissolve, though, with Group Threads for improved Durability or a universe where GMs allow multi-Discipline (which I personally believe should be allowe...

Re: Combat options

Keep in mind that someone existing solely/mostly for the purpose of keeping the characters from advancing would likely be taking a Defensive Stance (-3 to their tests but +3 to their defenses). Given that, you may not need to give them a special "push back" option - the game already has a ...

Re: Magicians Casting Buffs On Teammates `From Behind'

Chain Casting is definitely not my baby - minimally, you can hop over to Panda's Gaming Grove and look there, he has a paragraph write up on his opinion for it ... somewhere. A lot of it comes down to reasonableness, IMHO. Minute duration is a minimum. After that, it's all just GM discretion, withou...
