Re: karma use and other questions in 4th ed

Interaction tests are basically any time you're rolling straight Charisma to convince someone to do something. What social talents tend to do is either give you a bonus to your Charisma roll (Winning Smile, Lasting Impression) or modify the difficulty of the roll (First Impression, Diplomacy, Etique...

Re: non-troll skyraiders

In the 3rd Edition Player's Companion, the Sky Raider character is a human. She makes a point of establishing that the Sky Raider discipline is very closely tied to the overall culture of the trollmoots, with Sky Raiders sort of representing an ideal that all trolls should aspire to. So to become a ...

Crystal Arms and Weapons

So the Crystal Arm blood charm grants you an extra unarmed attack at the cost of 1 strain and -2 to all Action Tests that round, including the attack itself. I'm wondering, what happens if the arm is holding a weapon? The charm description states that crystal arms are just as capable of grasping and...

Re: dice

I hate failing much more than I like succeeding, so I tend to favour consistency over extreme results. I'd happily give up great successes if it meant I never had to suffer a great failure again.* It then follows that I very much prefer lots of small dice over fewer big ones, as this tends to cluste...

Re: dice

You may want to . The short version is that the d4 is only used for Steps 1, 2, and 3, while the d20 is only used for Step 19 (d20+2d6) and above. The idea is to make it so that you don't have to roll more than 3 dice until you get to Step 37.

Re: disciplines beyond the player book

I think I prefer the kind of equality that allows access to thread items and group patterns before Circle 4 over the one that doesn't.

Re: GM's Guide -- Anything you would like to see?

I have no plans to add any kind of official sanity mechanic to Earthdawn. It goes against what I feel is the 'heroic' nature of the game, and adds a mechanical aspect to something that I would really rather be left mysterious and in the hands of individual gamemasters and players. That said, genera...

Re: disciplines beyond the player book

Half-magic has been scaled back from 3E considerably. Which is a perhaps a pity, since my group was fond of making liberal use of Half-Magic. One hopes the other changes will make-up for it, but in my experience playing 3rd Edition it was a very useful way to express all the little things that one ...

Re: Pre-art draft feedback

You know, I just remembered that the weight for blood charms always bugged me in 3rd Edition. Basically most blood charms are listed to weigh one pound, when the description suggests that in truth their weight should be negligible, or at most a few ounces. Take Bone Charms, they're knuckle sized pie...

Re: Pre-art draft feedback

Well, it's a point of view, the one which was chosen, but I so disagree. Here, the focus is clearly on niche protection (which I dislike, like much of D&D scories which are still in ED) and balance. OK. But that's not the only view and that's not the one I like. I prefer the logic of the world....
