Re: Setting or system?
I've played Fate a couple of times now. I can see it's merits, in fact I would go as far as saying It is an excellent piece of work, but I don't really like that style of gaming. A couple of my players really struggled with the concepts and we gave up in the end. Yeah I know how they felt and how y...

Re: Setting or system?
IDK. Fate and Cortex have a different philosophy than Earthdawn. Trying to shoehorn Earthdawn into that style of game, would take a complete overhaul of Earthdawn. That doesn't even take into consideration that not everyone is all lollipops and sunshine when it comes to games that are more narrativ...

Re: Setting or system?
I think the Dice Step system is alright and it works, but I feel there is a potentially better dice system for Earthdawn than what we've had for the last 20 years. I'm really tempted to run a game of Earthdawn using the Fate system. It's focus on the more narrative side of roleplaying feels like it ...

Re: Setting or system?
Here's my take on Earthdawn - A little history first. I came into Role-playing with Shadowrun. NOT, I repeat NOT with D&D. When my group introduced me to D&D I was lost. There was no setting, and the rules were downright idiotic. So when I found the Earthdawn flyer explaining the rules and ...

Re: ED4 Preview #3
For simplicities' sake, as well as for consistency. Adepts & non-adepts exist within the same world, so using the same game system makes the most sense. There are blessings and curses to giving everyone and everything in your game world PC stats. I don't think anyone is talking about making non...

Re: Opinion Piece on the 4th Edition Book size.
I wish they'd make the book small enough to fit in my pocket. PDF on your phone? :) Good idea, but I like books. There's just something about holding it in my hands and flipping through the pages that I love. Novel sized would fit perfectly in my jacket pockets. Do what I do and put your digest siz...

Why should non-Adepts have the exact same rules than Adepts for some things?

Re: ED4 Preview #3
If you didn't use skills duplicating talents how you handled fights without melee weapons and missile weapons? You can't avoid duplicating talents and skills but talents should be more special. Good question... I don't remember details as that was 18 years ago. :) I just know that that part of the ...

Re: ED4 Preview #3
In the few games of Earthdawn I had ever run as a GM I always ignored the skills that were also talents. It never changed how the game flowed for me.

Re: Seeking some feedback on a possible ED4 change
I also like the way Knockdown Tests are done. It does take a tiny bit of math, but it makes sense. I wouldn't change this either. Same here. The biggest issue I've had with players new to Earthdawn(usually coming from D&D) is initiative rolling every round. I personally really love the flow of ...
