Re: Dumb Questions - Displace Self

Still I agree that in theory it could work, plus for some traps, plus for some things like falling objects, trampling, etc. Forgot to weigh in on this comment. Avoid Blow (AB) CANNOT be used for falling objects or other types of things that would affect Physical Defense (with the possible exception...

Re: Dumb Questions - Displace Self

I still think the spell ought to be more powerful. I like where it sits, personally. If this gave a bonus to Avoid Blow, then Wizards would have TWO spells that grant bonuses to the Talent. I think that's a little bit much. Even if the Wizards didn't want to go crazy with the bonuses, the end resul...

Re: Dumb Questions

Re: Disbelieving a fireball (that is not a phantom fireball) While I like the flavor of what you're saying, ChrisDDickey, I think you're pushing beyond intent. The Fireball spell does not cause more damage to people with lower Mystic Defense (MD) - resolution and damage is only based on highest MD....

Re: Dumb Questions

Re: Displace Self I have to agree, I'm not really sure what the intent is with "indirectly targeted" would be. The adept avoids injury by dodging or parrying blows directed against him. When attacked in close or ranged combat, the adept may make an Avoid Blow test against his opponent’s A...

Re: [ED4]Lowering myst. def. vs. disbelieving

@Baravakar: You do you, man. At my table, if a player cannot justify why their character would think a spell/effect could be an illusion, I would not allow them to Disbelief. Moreover, if someone tries it repeatedly after being warned or starts coming up with EXCEPTIONALLY sketchy justification, I'd...

Re: [ED4]Lowering myst. def. vs. disbelieving

There's be a fairly healthy amount of discussion on all of this before on this forum, multiple times, and I'm not really sure what more can be said... Specific to your concern about your logical disconnect between Disbelieving Illusions (player's guide, p. 267) and the loss of elective lowering of M...

Re: [ED4] Astral Interference

Yeah, unless someone else comes up with an interesting new take, I don't think there's much else to be said. It also doesn't help that the books sometime meander on the language: "affected targets" vs "those affected," hard to say there's a difference unless you lean on the "...

Re: [ED4] Astral Interference

True, but how is he not targeted the moment he enters the area of effect? Sorry, I just realized that my previous rambling didn't actually answer this. The answer is because AI NEVER targets creatures. AI does not target creatures within the AoE during initial resolution. AI does not target creatur...

Re: [ED4] Astral Interference

Normally, I'm not a fan of parsing semantics - people get way too hung up on words used to embellish, flavor, etc. However, in ED as with many other games, there are core words with system meaning: Action, Turn, Rank, etc. I could be wrong, but "target" is one of those (although I never se...
