Re: Do Talent Bonuses Stack?
Thanks. I hadn't realized the strain cost would be that much of a deterrent. But I get it now.

Do Talent Bonuses Stack?
The general question is: If a PC has two different talents that can be used in the same round (e.g., both are Simple talents) that provide a bonus to the same ability, defense, what-have-you, do the bonuses stack, that is, do they add together to provide an even bigger bonus? Or does just the higher...

Re: Firing Into Melee
I have to agree that the current rules make sense. Low roll, missile flies wide. Middling roll, arrow flies mostly where intended, but hits someone else. High roll, target acquired, direct hit. Basically, a middle roll shows that you were good enough to shoot in the right direction. I like this exp...

Firing Into Melee
The rules for Firing Into Melee (Player's Guide, p. 393) don't seem logical to me. This was, in fact, a topic of a rather intense discussion at the last game that I ran. So, I'd like to better understand the rationale for the rules. The crux of the issue: It seems that the better your shot is, the g...

Down Sttrike Height
In a recent game, I had a PC Warrior (7' tall obsidiman) who wanted fighting a 6' tall opponent in a room with a 10' high ceiling. He wanted to do a Great Leap upwards and then a Down Strike. To do a Down Strike, it states that: He must be in a stable position at least one yard above his opponent (e...

Re: Stealthy Stride & Attacks
Thanks for the responses. It's given me a lot of food for thought. I think I'm getting the idea. Part of it is that I need to remember to apply situational bonuses to hide rolls. And to add penalties when the opponents keep searching for this wannabe ninja. Seems like someone with Stealthy Stride sh...

Stealthy Stride & Attacks
I ran my first ED4 combat last night. Somehow (as usual), the players came up with combinations that I didn't expect. One question that came up was: The party is in a cavern, dimly lit, 10' high ceiling, facing 6 enemies. Two PCs use the Stealthy Stride Talent to hide. One rolls a 27, the other a 12...

Re: Thread Items
Thanks for the wonderful example of the armor made from 2 skeorx hides. That's exactly the sort of item history that I want to develop in my game. I'm now starting a new campaign using 4E. Using this as an opportunity to start afresh, I'm going to work at coming up with creation stories for anything...

Re: Handling large groups with iffy attendance
From the mechanics side, I like the idea of half LP when not attending. ... My current ED GM for my other group also provided a great idea via only giving thread items (or maybe higher tier thread items) to regular attendees, allowing them to grow horizontally, thereby slowing their Circle progress...

Re: Handling large groups with iffy attendance
Re: attendance As a GM, I'd want to know why people aren't showing up. Especially the one who only shows up 1 time out of 5. Based on the answers I get, I'll figure out what action to take. E.g., if the 20% person is out of town on business a lot, maybe they can participate via Skype. Or if they're ...
