Re: Dumb Questions - Displace Self

OK, thanks. I am sure that the multiple attack thing is the big reason to use the spell. That had not occurred to me. I had actually considered the dragon breath scenario, but looked it up and the cone of a dragons breath is just so freaking huge I doubt that a mere 2 yard movement would usually be ...

Re: Dumb Questions - Displace Self

The Wizard 6 spell Displace Self is another spell that I just can't fathom the purpose behind. Or maybe I just don't understand it. Effect: Enhances Avoid Blow tests This spell moves the magician away from harm. The magician hops frantically up and down, then makes a Spellcasting test against his ow...

Re: Dumb Questions

Re: Disbelieving a fireball (that is not a phantom fireball) While I like the flavor of what you're saying, ChrisDDickey, I think you're pushing beyond intent. The Fireball spell does not cause more damage to people with lower Mystic Defense (MD) - resolution and damage is only based on highest MD....

Re: Dumb Questions

ED4 Dumb question 2. In older editions the Karma Ritual had to be done in the morning. This seems to be no longer the case. Can a character use up all their existing karma and then, say just before midnight refresh their karma? A beastmaster needs to do his karma ritual "around the area on whi...

Disbelieving a fireball (that is not a phantom fireball)

I think I know what the correct way to handle this is, but I am not certain that how I want to handle it is what the rules actually say. Spellcasting test against the highest Mystic Defense among all targets within a 4-yard radius of the point of impact... The magician’s Effect test determines how m...

Re: [ED4]Lowering myst. def. vs. disbelieving

Common sense says that you can't deep down in your soul believe that your good buddy that you know perfectly well is not an illusionist and that just said he was going to cast shield willow on you is really going to cast an illusion on you. You can't convince yourself. But I also agree that it is ha...

Re: Dumb Questions

When a spell that normally has a single target allows additional targets, the Mystic Defenses are compared separately, are they not? For example, "Mind Dagger" has a target of TMD, not highest TMD. If we cast Mind Dagger with an additional thread that allowed an additional target at target...

Re: Dumb Questions

The reason you want to create a group pattern, is so that you can weave threads to the group pattern. This allows you to raise abilities that are normally impossible or very expensive to raise by other means (see list on page 230). The increased abilities are not 100% permanent or active 100% of the...

Re: [ED4] Astral Interference

The "Astral Interference" talent and the "Baseline Subtraction" spell are giving my imagination fits. I am trying to imagine cases where they would be used by ether a player or a GM, and I am having very limited success. The problem is that in almost every case I can think of, it...

Re: Fourth Edition Player's Guide Errata and FAQ

Stupid me, I should have looked more carefully, mind dagger does indeed have duration of 2 rounds, because it has has a secondary effect which lasts two rounds. And it does indeed appear that lightning bolt and most other combat spells with no lingering effects, do indeed have a duration of one roun...
