An idea about utility spells
One of the complaints we see about fourth edition is that spells in core book are noticeably combat-oriented. As far as I understand this is not going to change until we see the sourcebook on magic or, hopefully, spell design rules which presumably will take a good amount of work.
I was thinking about tentative solution to this problem wróci would not cost the developers tobe o much effort. How about a mini-supplement listing the spells from previous editions which are suitable for the current edition? I believe that adjustments needed to account for the extra threads mechanics may be somewhat harder to carry out, but this mechanics was intended mostly with combat in mind anyway, shop maybe it won't be so crucial.
Speaking for myself, I would be happy to pay for it. What do you think about it?

I think it would be quite useful, but probably be more work than you think. They can't do a half-way job of it, because it affects the entire Earthdawn community.
Re: An idea about utility spells
Right now, the plan for the first book after Questors is a magic supplement that will provide more spells. I'm hoping that updates of spells from older editions will be part of that.

Not really.
The last time this was discussed in length (viewtopic.php?f=10&t=939&start=40) the plans seemed to be (in order):
1- Elven Nations (soon)
2- Iopos book
3- 'Mystic Path' (tentative name); an 'Adept's Way type' book
4- 'Unknown title'; an 'Arcane Mysteries' book including the post 8th Circle Spells and, presumably, other magical mechanics.
#3 and #4 are not far along in development and might switch position in publishing order.
And, somewhere within this, we will also get the newly announced Arancia Book.

We home ruled some of the old stuff.
The player comes up with a proposal, the other players review it and then we set tentative rules and discuss after a few evenings how they feel.

Of all things I lost, sanity I held dearest.

An Iopos book would be high-interest for me. As the Therans have fallen back, we need a good terrifying national-level threat, and they are fascinating. After that I’d rather see a magic book than mystic path … maybe? I’d want both!
Re: An idea about utility spells
For my part, when players would complain about spells they once had but were no longer available in fourth edition, I let them invent it with simple house rules. This way, I had to convert only the spells that truly mattered to my players.
And since I introduced the fourth edition system in-game, the players could complain genuinly in-character.
