Earthdawn Media Inspirations

My local group may be running Earthdawn soon, and my GM likes to look at the various media inspirations a lot of Role Playing games include within their books. What sort of Media Inspirations would you look at to get in the spirit of Earthdawn?

If you want to run a campaign in a Kaer, City of Ember.

That is a fascinating question, and I must think on it.

As far as video games are concerned, Ultima Underworld (and its spiritual successor, Arx Fatalis) are great inspirations for life (and adventure!) in a kaer.

Lankhmar is obviously a good inspiration for Kratas.

I also imagine the Earthdawn world as similar to Conan or the Scorpion King -- basically "sword & sorcery" settings set in pseudo-Antiquity -- in terms of style and architecture and general visual atmosphere.

I usually lift combat imagery from Wuxia films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero (2002).

I'm going to second this choice

Fallout strangely enough.
I try to capture that feeling of newness and unexpected mystique that is always there whenever you leave a vault for the first time.

In FO you know you'll encounter an apocalyptic wasteland with familiar elements, but it's always different, presented in a new captivating way.

ED is the same; you know it's high fantasy but it's still largely unexplored, filled with wonder, horror and twisted plots

Hello,

As I posted on Twitter (where Josh posted this question), I think the Reavers from Firefly are a great depiction of extreme Horror Taint.

Take Care,

Always nice to see you here Lou :)

The Mark of Sacrifice in Berserk is pretty much an Horror Mark.
And any Demon for that manga can be an inspiration for nightmare-inducing nasties.

Lately, the 2014 version of Hercules (w/The Rock) has felt very Earthdawn to me........ ;)
