How do you run your game?

I thought it might be nice to share tips on how you run your game. What types of things do you do at the table or pre-game to help run a smooth game? How about house rules? Have you borrowed anything from other game systems that has improved your game sessions?

For example, I've created a portfolio for each of my PCs. In it is all the advancement information for their chosen discipline, full write up of each talent, talent knack and skill for easy reference (cuts time for them having to look abilities up in the book), the entire combat and Building your legend rules printed off for each portfolio and some other odds and ends that are useful to each player.

For spell casters, I've created spell cards that fit in a card sheet (the kind used for baseball card collections). I printed on transparency paper a "filter" which indicates spell matrices and the player can easily move it around from card to card when they re-attune a spell matrix.

At the game table, we use tiny red cubes to keep track of karma. When a player uses one, they discard a cube into the bowl.

I'd love to here other people's ideas, house rules, etc.
