Brief Backstory:
I grew up in Throal and when my family ventured out of the city and left for this new home called Skyreader Island. I was to follow along because that's what is expected of you when you are a good little windling child. Granted I am longer a child, but I am the only remaining child at home because my sisters have done the "appropriate" thing and found nice husbands and started lovely little families of their own. "Why can't I be more like my sisters?" is the constant refrain from my mother. "Stop reading so much you'll ruin your eyes and get wrinkles from squinting so much." "Why don't you go outside and get some sunshine and meet some nice boy and start your own family?" As if that is the ONLY reason I am this planet. To meet a boy, and have a family and make a lovely home - what else could I possibly want. So I followed along to this new home because they would not leave me behind in the big bad city by myself, and they had grown weary of Throal.
I knew I would miss the great libraries and the markets and the museums and the people of Throal. And then a miracle happened. These adventurers that were going to escort us had windlings amongst them. And so I watched, I took in how they were treated by the others of their party and how they themselves. And I used the journey to think about what lay ahead of me if I followed the path my parents wanted. And my soul died alittle the further along that path I ventured in my mind. And so I talked to my parents. And I told I couldn't do it, that their path was not mine. I told them I did not yet know what lay ahead of me and I was scared of that path but also for the first time in years I was excited. And when those adventurers left I had a new mission, I had to make my way back to Throal and find out how I too could contribute on an adventure like they did.
And so the next morning, with my parents blessing, I took that first step.
