From the journal of Xeviouz, Human Warrior
Zil the Windling Elementalist, Duban the Dwarven Wizard and myself are assisting Dvarim the Dwarven Weaponsmith prove himself to become initiated in the school of Elementalism.
Thraggol Smeltheart, dwarf apprentice Elementalist, was sent out to scout the area of a true air node. He reported there is some kind of elemental spirit there calling out for help. We need to find an entry into the caves where the elemental is located. Possibly on the other side of the mountains. Possible encounter with Storm Bats that have a lightning attack.
I buy a Troll Sling at the bizarre then we head out one of the back gates. We head out. THe elemental is at 45.09, the caves entrance is at 46.09. It is raining most of the journey there. Beautiful rain, I love it. We come across a small caravan in the mountains. I am able to navigate us to the Ice Troll Moot without incident. Dvarim negotiates with the Trolls to get information about the path to the caverns and the possible inhabitants of the caverns. Hakali No-tooth is one of the Trolls we speak with. He says all the animals of the area have become strange. Zil is able to predict the weather well enough for us to stay mostly dry. The rain beaks as we get close to the caverns entrance.
Zil and Dvarim are talking about water being in the air, hanging about. I think they are talking about rain, but Zil says no, it is always there. It makes no sense.
As we are making our way along the path we are set upon by some of the afore mentioned lightning bats. We are able to kill one of the bats, the second flew away.
We are starting to move along the path again when we hear wolfs baying in the distance. THen storm clouds start accumulating above us. We try to run to the entrance of the caverns but are again ambushed by storm wolfs. As we engage the wolfs, more storm bats fly in and ambush us. Several of my friends are knocked down. It is a grueling fight, I am almost knocked unconscious. We are able to kill several storm wolfs and a couple more bats. ! wolf and 2 bats are able to escape. I am able to use my Fireblood talent to remain standing and fighting. After the fight we look for a place to rest. Zils devotion to the passion Garlen is incredible, it heals one of my wounds. Between heated food and resting I am at full recovery the next morning.
Next morning we make it to the cavern entrance without any problems. We begin exploring the cave and stumble across a large scally snake thing with lots of tentacles. Duban says that thing is corrupted. We are able to kill this corrupted creature very quickly, but not before it lets out some kind of sonic moan as it dies. 2 more of them come from around the corner towards us. As we are fighting them some gnasher creature stat attacking us as well. It is a terrifying fight, but we prevailed.
We search the rest of the cavern after the gottific fight and find an air elemental shackled to a crystalline iron maiden looking thing. Zil is able to speak to it and gets the story of how it was captured here many years ago. Dvarim is able to set it free. It says that it has been horror marked and must be destroyed. Zil and Dvarim say a few kind words and then we dispatch the poor tortured elemental.
We finish searching the cavern then head back to Throal.

My friend and colleague Dvarim Bolg has made no secret to me his desire to deepen his connection with the elements by learning the secrets of the Elementalist Discipline. Not surprising, I suppose, as he is so intimately involved with fire and metal on a regular basis. Naturally, convincing people to initiate someone in a new Discipline after they have gone down another path is difficult. Still, he found someone willing to give him a chance... *if* he completed a challenging task: find and assist an Elemental in distress.

Dvarim asked Xevious, Zil and myself to assist him on this task, and so we set off through parts of the Throal Kaer that I had never seen to head off in the proper direction. Thankfully, Xevious proved extraordinary at finding the way for us, and we arrived at the Ice Troll Moot without incident. The Trolls were quite helpful in pointing the way to the caves where the Elemental was believed to be. The Trolls also offered a piece of advice: try to avoid confronting the strange bats in the rain. I shall have to investigate that further when I have the opportunity.

Sure enough, we were attacked by bats and wolves on the way to the caves. A nasty, nasty fight. I was sorely wounded by a wolf, for example. We took advantage of Zil's talents after to recover quickly. Zil is now a Questor of Garland and his healing capabilities are remarkable.

The next day we found our way into the caves and discovered horribly mutated worms (not sure if Horrors were involved, but I strongly suspect so) and creatures called Gnashers. Another massively hard fight, but we prevailed and continued our explorations. We even found a pattern item: a pair of gauntlets that Dvarim claimed. I imagine I'll be researching them for him soon.

We found the Elemental, chained to a mystical apparatus. Apparently it had been bound, manifested, in that space for hundreds of years. Zil helped us speak to it, and it asked for the only release possible: oblivion. With a heavy heart, Dvarim obliged. With that, we returned to Throal.
