Greeting my big happy family,
Sorry, it took so long for me to write to you, but I had to go search for all my writing tools. They went missing a while I was adventuring, and it took me some time to find them. I did finally find them in my closet buried under a bunch of clothes. I think FizzBit (that is the name of my Foxil) took them. He is mad that I gave him a bath before I left. I thought maybe he would like the “Soap” idea. Nope... Not going to happen. I have the scratches to prove it. At some point, I will find out who likes soap beside the “Wise-one” and my thief friend “ LaShana”.

O.k. here is what I did on my last adventure. I finally had time to make a journey to the Broken Spire Moot to return my fallen companion, Ursal, axe to his home. I was extremely fortunate to have other travelers who wanted to accompany me on such a respectful mission. My friends who accompanied me this time was of course the “wise-one”, a shaman by the name of Langren (he has such a way with animals. I almost want to call him the animal whisper. How about A.W E. Animal Whisper Extravagant. I will have to give it some thought). My new friend Darius is a hatchet thrower. Boy is he good at it. Those things, when thrown, make the most interesting sound. And then there is Dalyor. I am not sure what he is yet. He said that he knows how to make a mean BBQ. More later on that.

So off we went to deliver our precious items. Once we arrived, we were offered a place to rest and was introduced to Ursal’s sister. She is so pretty and wise. She told us the childhood story of her brother and how he was dedicated by his goal to protect. In return I told her the story on how he passed and that he fought bravely. Now I did not know this but I guess if there is no body they need something to represent the spirit of him in some way or form but in order to do this we had to fight for the right to go on such a quest. Sounds good to me at the time.

Picture this… Here we are in an arena there is the 5 of us and 5 really big trolls… well my size and a little bigger but when you tell the story to the little ones make sure you say they were huge. Now the crowd is going wild… Roar of the crowd (AHHHHHHHH) …stomp… stomp… clap…. “your awesome.” We get ready to fight and all of a sudden, POOF the whole floor is made into one big slipper ice patch. Kind of like when we would go ice fishing with Uncle Gigga’more. Well, it was a slippery slope from there. This where the BBQ came into play. Daylor was able to shoot fire out of some part of his body and set some of the fighting trolls on fire. It was so cool. In the end we defeated them and had the honour of going to get the animal.

This animal was huge it was a Crystal Bear. A.W.E (nope I don’t think I like the sound of it) was able to keep the other crystal bears from attacking and we took on the biggest and baddest one. Once the crystal bear was knocked down we honoured Ursal’s memory by giving the bears life for him to use as a spirit something or other. At this time, I learned a new proverb “Do not put sleeping bears on fire”. Good advice!

Off we went and returned with the vessel and had a major party to honour Ursal in the only way I know-how. Big fire and lots of drinking. Ah I like these trolls.

Well I will write soon. I can’t wait to see where I am going next.

Excitingly yours
Azurea

I'm finding myself more and more heading away from Throal. Aunt Temeris says this is a good thing, and I should be happy to expand my horizons. I'm still not completely sure where I want to end up, though. The menagerie I'm keeping is already stretching our home's resources thin, but none of the settlements I've visited so far seem like somewhere I can properly settle down in.

With this in mind, I decided to accompany a group of Adepts travelling to the Broken Spire Moot to return the possessions of a fallen friend. Once again I was with the monk A'Horangi and Azurea the Troll. I also met a couple of new faces. One was an elf wizard called Dalyor, and the other was another Human, an Archer Named Darius.

This trek took us deep into the nearby mountains, where the Trolls had set up their Moot. I've never really had much of a chance to observe Trollish culture and it was refreshingly straightforward and honest, although a bit more formal than I'm used too. The greeting we received was a bit cool, considering the nature of our errand, and it was worse since apparently the body of the slain was not recoverable, so only his axe could be brought back to be interred. After some talking, we were finally able to speak with Ursal's family (Ursal being the Adept we were there to honor).

Azurea wove a tale of of Ursal that made me wish I had been able to meet him in life, but even in his death he sounded a true hero. His sister seemed to feel the same way, but was faced with the dilemma caused by her brother's body being lost. Her Moot's custom was that warriors who were lost and could not be properly buried had to be reconciled with the spirits through a proxy. As Ursal's totem was the bear, a suitable proxy had to be slain and returned tot he village. Fortunately, the Ursine spirits were in favor of this, for a group of bears had recently moved into a cave the Moot used for mining. These bears were far from ordinary, though. In addition to being extremely aggressive, they appeared to have spent time somewhere that was heavy with crystal essence, and that essence had actually altered the fabric of their being. I had heard of these things from Shar'gaz, but the chance to observe them made this trip all the more worthwhile for me.

We wanted to help Sostree, but first we had to earn the right to retrieve this spirit animal. This at least was the kind of thing I was used to. Only the strongest and most worthy can be allowed such an honor, so we had to prove ourselves in combat in the Moot's arena.

The fight itself was quick, because, although our opponents were truly skilled, they did not work as a team, and our focused assault quickly picked them off, one by one. Fortunately the Trolls were all wearing Death Cheat charms, so the exuberance of my companions did not prove fatal as we won the day (and the right to hunt the spirit animal in honor of Ursal).

The following morning, after healing our wounds, we set off further into the mountains, following the directions we had been given to find the cave. As we approached the final turning, we could hear the bears ahead, growling and pawing at the ground. With this much warning, I asked my companions to let me take the lead in the confrontation, hoping to avoid excessive bloodshed. With this in mind I wove the threads I needed, and, as I stepped into view of the bears, laid a compulsion of peace upon them. The spirits were truly with me, for all three of them were close to one another, and the spell's effect was strong enough to keep them docile while I bound two of them with rope. I regret having to kill the third, but this is the way of the spirits, so we acted to make its end honorable and quick, allowing it to at least defend itself in its final moments. Once that task was done, we thanked the spirits for their generosity and help, then I proceeded to more securely harness the other two bears, all the while renewing my spells of peace on them.

You see, I couldn't condone killing them without good reason, but they also could not be allowed to stay where they were. Finally I decided that they were a true blessing from the Ursine spirit and should be returned to village, where they could be trained to aid the Moot rather than prey on its people and resources. With this in mind we began our trek back, with Azurea carrying the corpse of our sacrifice and the others aiding me in leading the survivors while I was constantly renewing my spells. I was never able to gain the trust of those bears, likely because of the conditions of our meeting, but we were at least able to return them to the moot where they could be pinned and a Beastmaster could begin working with them.

I was there for a few more days, helping to secure the bears for the Moot, and was able to watch the ritual honoring Ursal from a distance. It was a truly powerful and moving send-off, ending with a feast and the presentation of Ursal's axe to Azurea to hold in trust.

I'm beginning to see why some people are drawn to build these communities, and now I hope more than ever to find a place much like the Broken spear Moot that i can also call my home.
