As soon as I heard that there were wolves attacking some (presumably) peaceful obsidimen I grabbed my kit and headed for the door. Those pesky wolves have ambushed me time and again in the hills. A chance to pay them back some for the bother they've given we was welcome. Or so I thought. I got together with more or less the usual band to go wolf hunting. We had along that nethermancer elf I worked with as our backup. Man is she good at dodging. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
We met with the local obsidiman representative and followed his directions into the hills. As expected we were ambushed. Unexpectedly: not by wolves. Rather harpies came down and insulted us repeatedly hoping to tear us apart. They were able to do some damage before being slowly driven off. Their insults were quite... distressing. This prolonged the battle as neither side could successfully penetrate the defenses of the other. Once complete though two of us who were wounded took ill with some foul disease carried in the claws of those disgusting harpies. We made it to the liferock rather worse for wear. That night just before dawn the wolves attacked the obsidimen with one clearly dominant over the others. After prolonged fighting our nethermancer (proving quite nimble at avoiding blows) induced significant Pain on the alpha, leading to the retreat of the whole band. Under the circumstances it was decided to heal up before proceeding as the harpy sickness was still in need of curing as well as various injuries and wounds. I also felt the need to discuss the imperative of aiding those we adventure with, even with our blood in time of need. I'm not sure I got through to him that bleeding some now keeps everyone alive over the long term whereas trying to save one's own skin during a fight not yet lost can loose the fight; killing all.
We proceeded to head to a particular mountain which is known for being a good place to see from. I think I've been to that mountain before but I'm no navigator so I cannot be sure. As we climbed the mountain we saw corrupted red ants and prepared for combat... and then we woke up in Throal and all was well. Here endeth the lesson.
OOG: time and weather forced an early end to the session.
