New Profession: The Priest Investigator

Post by daniel_a » Sat Mar 17, 2018 9:10 pm

Inspired by a discussion on the Grand Tales and Glorious Schemes section of the forum (viewtopic.php?f=45&t=715), I have put together a new Profession, the Priest Investigator. Feel free to look at it, comment on it, use it.

Nicely done. I like the named Ability - you've caught the flavor of the system very well with that.

Thanks! And apparently we get to playtest it soon enough, since the Barsaivian Troubadour seems to want to become a Priest Investigator.

I read the blurb and immediately wanted to play one.

What are you thinking for spells? I'd almost be tempted to drop spell casting and double down on social skills. But that is only my preference, not even an opinion about a change you should make.

If you play one, please let me know how it worked in play. We haven't play tested it ourselves yet, and I don't know how it works in game.
Regarding spells I was thinking that the same list as the faith normally uses would be the list used. I understand that you could probably tweak that to better mirror the Investigator part of the Profession. But honestly, I haven't yet thought about it.
In our case, the situation is a little bit special, since the player who wants to play a Priest Investigator recently was transported/teleported/plane shifted to London 1879 from Barsaive (Earthdawn time), and has plans on trying to introduce the Passions from Earthdawn, and found a new faith, and in that case I think I will have him pick out the spells listed for this new faith.

Indeed. You might look at the abilities that a Questor of that Passion get, and see what KAVs you could build that would mirror them.

Similar to what I was thinking. Now I just have to wait until the Passion Sourcebook is written and released (or I guess I could go to previous editions' sources ...)

Questors for ED4 is in final draft. You can get the first edition ED Companion, that has the original Questors chapter in it, in PDF from our web store, if you don't already have it.

Don't worry, I have everything from every previous edition already :-) Me and the players in the Earthdawn 1879 thread started playing ED 1993 ... (And boy was I happy when I read the news that Fasa was back on Earthdawn! And then when I understood was 1879 was about, oh man...)

The ED4 questionnaire is in final tunnel rush draft. If you do not already have the first edition ED Companion, which includes the original Questors chapter, you can obtain it in PDF format from our online store.
