The sky opened without warning, and a driving rain hammered down from above. The once open vista disappeared in a haze of grey cast in the eerie warm glow of the dying sun. With no shelter on the plain, the trio pressed on, shoulders huddled against the wet and the wind.

A tree line appeared among the fog, and the troupe pressed on. As the canopy filled in above, the rain abated somewhat only to be replaced by sporadic falls of water from above.

Minuial's ears perked, and her head spun slightly. Her eyes focusing somewhere off in the distance. "Music." It was the most one could expect as warning or description for her, so neither Eristed nor Shale pressed for more details. The two stood huddled under a tree for cover as Minuial crouched low and moved forward.

Moments later, Minuial reappeared just on the edge of the visibility permitted by the rain. Without looking back, she motioned her companions towards her. Eristed and Shale moved forward in response, with Shale reaching back and drawing out his war hammer from its perch upon his back.

As they pressed on, the sound of music and revelry slowly swelled above the rain beating upon trees and ground. A warm light appeared, hazy at first, and slowly resolved into the rectangular shapes of windows. A large building, most likely a town hall, steadily formed before them. It was a welcome sight for all three, a port in the miserable storm raging all around them.

Shale led the last few yards and pushed open the building door. The merry upbeat tunes of fife and lute hit them like a wall as the door opened wide, and both the light and warmth of a large fire within washed over them. The sight of townsfolk laughing and dancing greeted them.

Eristed smiled widely and led the way into the hall, no longer reflecting the caution or concern still lingering on Shale. The Human villagers barely noticed their entrance at first in their revelry. Still, within moments, a bar maid pushed her way through the mass of dancers, her face glowing with happiness as she thrust a tankard of ale towards Eristed. "Drink up," she hollered above the music.

Infected by the enthusiasm around hi,, Eristed grabbed the tankard with both hands and tossed back the ale as quickly as possibe. She giggled, watching as trickles of foam and liquid snaked down his neck. Eristed smiles and did his best to hand the empty vessel back to her. She returned the smile enticingly and extended her hand. "Come dance with me," she giggled. Eristed returned the smile, set the tankard on the edge of the nearest table, and pressed himself against the woman. They disappeared into the spinning townsfolk as Minuial and Shale let the door close behind them.

The two remaining adventures moved their way around and through the crowd towards a banquet table. The sight of a small feast of suckling meats, freshly harvested vegetables, and filled tankard beside a tapped barrel welcomed them. Shale gave a brief smile, pleased to see the food and drink, and continued forward, but Minuial still seemed reluctnant. A jovial man waved them forward from behind the table, his head swaying back and forth to the music. "Welcome, friends! Eat, drink, CELEBRATE!"

Shale hefted a tankard, the vessel almost comically tiny in his broad, rocky hands, and drained it. Meanwhile, Minuial refused the offer. She looked at the man, thrust her arm towards the crowd, and said simply "Why?" The man smiled broadly, an obvious look of confusion on his face, but the bluntness and obtuseness of her question otherwise did not affect him as a bounced to the tune.

"Why the celebration?" Shale knew his companion well and knew when to pick up her thread-bare attempts at conversation.

"Ah!" The man slapped his heavy belly and laughed. "We are on the eve of the FREE DAYS, my friends! The final harvest of the year is in, our village is prosperous, and we've the Days before us to relax and enjoy the fruits of our labor. Is that not a wonderful reason to celebrate?!"

Shale nodded wordlessly, almost contemplatively, and reached for another helping of ale.

"So, come! Help us celebrate!"

Despite the body-shaking volume of the music, the thunderous ruckus of laughter and conversation, and the shuffling of dozens of feet in dance, the cry of a single, shrill scream still pierced above the noise...

The first entry in this brief adventure. I figured I'd try my hand at telling one of our complete adventures, in fiction form. Maybe I shouldn't do it after after a night of drinking, though. :D

I expect this particular post to be the most "average fantasy" of the entries in the tale. The remaining entries are where more of the Earthdawn-specific elements really start coming in. I'll also be trying to focus the narrative on the Earthdawn-specific parts, my impression of how things manifest for Adepts and different Disciplines; hopefully, that doesn't distract from the story. My hope is to tell a decent story while also helping to really highlight how Earthdawn Talents and Skills come into play, keeping the story from just being generic fantasy. Most of these secondary posts will also likely focus on notes from the adventure, as there are a couple weird things that happen just due to test results.
