Re: Athens in Earthdawn
Vivane doesn't occupy the area of Greece. I'm not sure what you mean by that. The CITY of Vivane is indeed far away from Attica but the PROVINCE itself does include the entire modern Greece. I was unable, however, to find any information concerning 'the rest' of the province in either the Thera or ...

Re: Athens in Earthdawn
I've always found it odd that the geographical area of ancient Greece doesn't have a counterpart and culture in the Earthdawn setting. Despite the map in the back of Theran Empire, Vivane doesn't occupy the area of Greece. Its much closer geographically to Moesia (The River Danube having an Earthdaw...

Re: What language do Therans speak?
It's the other way around, Thoralic was influenced by Theran rather than the Therans adopting Thoralic. The origin of the Theran language is clarified on Pg. 163 of the Theran Empire book: " Theran, which is spoken just about everywhere in the Empire, is a radically altered variant of the Elven lan...

Re: What language do Therans speak?
Just to add a little bit more to the mix; p.25 of Theran Empire states that 'The Throalic language is a distant cousin of the Theran tongue'. It would appear that Theran is in fact related to the Dwarven family of languages as opposed to Sperethial. Denizens of Earthdawn Volume One also has a small...

Re: What language do Therans speak?
I assume that the racial languages are magical in nature at their core. It's the only way I can accept that all orks speak a language in common that they all understand, even with their short life spans and hundred of years spent in kaers. That's one way of looking at it, and in a setting like Eart...

Re: Earthdawn Companion?
I don't think there's enough going on in the Jomon to really draw an awful lot of inspiration from, they were basically just a hunter-gatherer society I don't think they stand out a lot from other prehistoric hunter-gatherers. Not when there's mythical Yamatai, the Yamato kingdom, Kami myths, the U...

Re: Earthdawn Companion?
Isn't Vasgothia already heavily inspired by Celts / Gauls? I mean I know its suppose to be more Germanic, but I feel that it pretty much fulfils that inspiration. I always felt Vasgothia was inspired by the Goths (hence the name), but there are definitely similarities. If the Arancia book is greenl...

Re: Earthdawn Companion?
Well that sounds promising. I'm glad that it's going to be its own thing; I just find it difficult to get behind Talea, with its quasi-European renaissance setting, I don't feel it fits with the other ancient world styled provinces. As you say, the quasi-renaissance look of those area don't fit wit...
