Re: Social System
What are people’s thoughts on tests to determine emotional states? Specifically, the Emphatic Sense talent. 1 success and you learn the targets general emotional state. 2 successes, you can read surface emotions. 3 successes you know exactly what the target is feeling. I like the idea of this but I...

Re: Talent Options becoming Free Talents
The rules don't cover every edge case. In fact the rules sometimes don't cover every common occurrence! Sometimes the GM just needs to make a judgement call. I would not just reduce the Talent to rank 1. There is no need to. The two possibilities I would give the most consideration to is to just kee...

Re: Severely distracted
I'd say the character who rolled the highest on his Distract Test will have distracted the target enough that he would not notice the distraction from the other character. Yep, rule of thumb is that only the biggest bonus/penalty from the same thing counts. The best distraction and the loudest batt...

Re: Charging Attacks and Charge Talent
Yes, I think you have an excellent grasp of it. The comment that it takes 2 rounds to initiate a charge was mistaken, the rider must command his mount to make a double-move. A more accurate statement would be that it is often difficult to pull off a charge more than every 2nd round. And you are corr...

Re: Charging Attacks and Charge Talent
Yes, an Obsidiman on a Thundra Beast is a terror outdoors, and would make a really excellent inclusion in any group of NPCs to challenge the PCs any place where he has plenty of charging room. But there is a reason Scorchers are usually encountered outdoors. Unless you know the GM is mostly going to...

Re: Character Advancement Questions
On the "Profession/Core/Optional Skill Rank Cost Table" on page 264, I am not sure if the costs are for the tier the skill is, or the skill slot is. Example: A journeyman tier character decides to pick a skill from his Initiate or Novice Core or Optional lists. Does he pay AP to advance it as a Joun...

Re: [ED4] Same spell multiple times on one target - what happens?
Does this also count for a group of 7 Elementarists all casting a fireball at mister bad guy in the same round? So only the highest damage is counted and the rest discarded? I was going to say no, with Mind Daggers, Fireballs, etc. The damage duration is usually considered an instant effect, it is ...

Re: Facing and blindside
For some reason the image you posted is not displaying for me, so I don't know how you had the dots arranged. But the diagram on page 391 of the players guild shows a character facing directly into one hex (not directly facing the line between two hexes). With three hexes defined as "front" and thre...

Re: 1879: The Expendables
Lord Bentley finishes his letter to his parents. We have spent two days here in Caracas getting ready for our expedition. We found several map shops, and in the better of the two the proprietor was able to make some sense of the map we had been given, which was a life-saver since the original was li...

Re: Facing and blindside
You are correct that the rules do not address this directly, but the companion does address this indirectly. The Companion page 95 has a Great Leap talent Knack "Vault Opponent", wherein an attacker can use the Knack to attempt to jump over an opponent into his blindside. if the Vault Opponent test ...
