Re: Fourth Edition Errata, Clarifications, and FAQs
About the Fireblood clarification: As i said in another thread, if Fireblood and healing aids are mutually exclusive, then Fireblood is the strictly inferior option. Fireblood heals Toughness + Fireblood Ranks, while Healing Potion heals Toughness + 8 and immediately cures a wound, and both require ...

Re: Shield Bash and Second Attack
*MY* interpretation, which could be totally wrong, is that there's a design assumption saying that "you can't use a Shield (which is in your off-hand) at the same time you use an off-hand Weapon." Just think of the logistics - using your off-hand to swing a Weapon -WHILE AT THE SAME TIME- using you...

Re: Shield Bash and Second Attack
This is such a weird piece of errata. You can use your shield with Melee Weapons, Momentum Attack, Riposte, and Second Attack, so why not Second Weapon? What's more, why can you hit with your shield and then your spear, but not with your spear and then your shield? Especially since in my experience ...

Re: Animal Training: What is and isn't one "Command". Also, what does it mean for a mount to be "Combat Trained".
How about there is no limit on things an animal can learn? Instead the difficulty is the animal's Social Defence, +1 for every trick it already knows. This means that you need either high ranks or lots of time in order to teach a mount a large number of tricks, and it accounts for Willful. You can t...

Re: NPC Only Disciplines.
One flavor element that has stuck in my craw over hundreds of settings, is where you have an entire world that seems to revolve solely around the adventuring activities of a tiny minority. OK, I realize that each game world does in fact revolve solely around the adventuring activities of a tiny min...

Re: Shield and Forge Armor, why not?
Well, in my game we haven't had any trouble finding Weaponsmiths with Forge ranks in the 7-8 range. Like the last time i got my stuff forged it i asked the ST what were the highest Circle Weaponsmith available, and he said there was a 7th Circle one and an 8th Circle one. Got my stuff forged right t...

Re: Shield and Forge Armor, why not?
Well total population is important for the extremely high Circles, since if it's not high enough, there might not even be any Master level Weaponsmiths at all. Total numbers can also matter when they're low, since the more there are in absolute terms, the higher your chances that one of them could b...

Re: Shield and Forge Armor, why not?
Note that Throal being one third of Barsaive's population is explicitly conjecture rather than fact. If you actually add up the populations of all settlements in published materials, then Barsaive's actual population is approximately 920 00 just in the major urban centers. So that's without all town...

Re: Shield and Forge Armor, why not?
Also the note of the topic title. It seems to me like it would be good to think about Shields and Forging from a logical in-universe perspective. A shield provides a defensive bonus because it blocks lines of attack against its wielder. This is how shields work in real life, it's how shields work in...

Re: Shield and Forge Armor, why not?
Your statement is true, though, that Close/Ranged combat is more effective than spell combat, as a rule (there are always outliers, same goes for very specific spells for certain Disciplines). Also, yes, this is by design. However, this gap became more pronounced in 4ED as a design goal . The quest...
