Re: Athens in Earthdawn
Vivane Province is, or rather was, the part of Barsaive still under Theran control. That the Therans Named it such was not just an effort to strengthen their hold on it, but also a tacit admission that the rest of Barsaive was lost to them and they weren't getting it back. It's a change in strategic...

Re: What language do Therans speak?
It's the other way around, Thoralic was influenced by Theran rather than the Therans adopting Thoralic. The origin of the Theran language is clarified on Pg. 163 of the Theran Empire book: " Theran, which is spoken just about everywhere in the Empire, is a radically altered variant of the Elven lang...

Re: Air Sailing VS Sailing
The Earthdawn system really doesn't do substitutions of its Attribute+Skill/Talent pairs, so no. What's more Navigation and Climbing are their own talents which must be bought separately. An Adept with Air Sailing will know how to work the sails of an air ship, but will need Climbing to actually get...

Re: Relative age by race
Maturity has two components: brain-body development and experience, both of which are variable from individual to individual. Sticking to humans, you can have really mature 12 year olds and extremely childish 24 year olds, because quality of experience matters much more than quantity of experience. ...

Re: Cutting head with single strike
Mechanically, you would need the Second Attack talent, as there is no other way to attack two opponents with the same weapon on the same round. Hit the first opponent with Melee Weapons and the second with Second Attack, if they both die, you could narrate that he cut both their heads off in a singl...

Re: Down Strike and how it might interact with Great Leap and/or splitting movement.
For reference, here's the First Edition version of Down Strike: "The Down Strike talent allows a character to inflict greater-than-normal damage on a target in combat. The character must be using the Gliding Stride Talent or using another talent to move at least 6 feet above the head of his opponent...

Re: Wind Catcher is a Standard Action?
Not familiar with that charm, but we usually play out of the core books (guides and companions). What is that out of? Originally the Theran Empire book, where it was audricously expensive 15 blood magic damage. The one we're using is from the 3E core, which reduced the blood magic damage to 3. Unli...

Re: Wind Catcher is a Standard Action?
If later publications invalidate your character build, it's entirely reasonable that you ask your GM for a chance to rebuild according to new material. Also, my preferred fall mitigation and mobility talent is the Wings of Fire Blood charm. It's not as good as Wind Catcher for long drops, but it can...

Re: Collective Issues with the Earthdawn 4e Game System/Engine
In 3rd Edition Spot Armour Flaw decreased the number of successes required to score an Armour-Defeating Hit. However the original 1st Edition version is a straight damage adder that works fine against naked softbodies. Don't remember offhand if Classic works more like 1st or 3d in this case. So ED4 ...
