In response to a posting, I and several others were hired by the great library to escort Ardin Tero, a scholar who researches legends. He is currently trying to find out about an ancient hero named Naaman Y'ross who had been active just before the scourge. Naaman was based in Travar, and there is a monument to him in Travar dating back from his actions during the Water Rebellion. Word has recently come from a place called New Messic (on the Opthia river) that seems connected to the old hero. There is a story of a young boy named Naaman Yarrs who went missing for several weeks that many have linked to the old legends of Y'ross. We are to escort Ardin to New Messic and help him investigate.
As we passed through the outskirts of the Servos Jungle (home), we heard some rustling in the underbrush a few dozen yards off of the path, I investigated and saw to Molgrim, which I tried to scare off, but they attacked and we had to slay them. This was the only encounter of note before we arrived at New Messic (3407). The population is mostly human, with a few dwarves. They welcomed us warmly, and did not ask for a greeting ritual, in fact they seemed unfamiliar with the ritual. They said that their village has not had any visitors at all in the two years that they have been aboveground. The person who opened their kear,Rurik Rockfist did some sort of greeting ritual, but they did not attach any importance to it. The two leaders of the village, Akirro and Jana Skarn seem scatterbrained and can't remember things two years gone. The whole village are hard working people who do practical stuff (weaving, cooking, etc.) but no purely artistic activity such as singing or dancing.
We spoke to the young man "Naaman Yarrs" who had had the weird experience. He and two companions had put the livestock in the farthest pasture, when the herd spooked and stampeded towards them. As Naaman was overrun he remembers dropping down and rolling into a ball, but then the next thing he remembers is waking up in a cave. There was a name "Naaman Y'ross" etched in the wall of the cave. It took him 10 nights to walk back to the village, but he was missing for 6 full weeks. He does not know where he was during that time, nor how he got so far away. I talked to the young men who were with him the day of the stampede, and they gave the story from their viewpoint, they thought he had been trampled to pieces. I walked that pasture, and saw nothing, including in astral.
That night some of our party thought somebody had messed with their bags. We realized later that it was probably members of the Hand. We asked Naaman if he would guide us back to the cave, and then accompany us back to Throal talk to the librarians. He agreed. Two of his friends started to accompany us, but Darlus threw daggers at them to run them off. It was impressive throwing, but everybody except Darlus felt it was totally and completely uncalled for and the mark of a real jerk.
Not long thereafter we realized that we were being followed. We were set upon by 7 humans. They attacked us, and then tried to run past us to get at the wagon where Naaman and Ardin were riding. We captured most of them. We saw that they all had tattoo's of a hand upon their neck/shoulder. Ardin recalled something vague about a secret society that was looking toward the reincarnation of Naaman Y'ross. The members of the hand would not talk at all, explain what they wanted or why they attacked us. We decided to skip going to the cave and take Naaman directly to Throal.
