Several of us answered an advert for Adepts needed to escort a mason named Frug Timbers to Iceclaw moot, the mason had been hired to repair a bridge. We escorted him to the moot without incident. The bridge in question was just outside the moot. The bridge was in very poor shape, and we felt it wise to only cross at a time, and to unladen Frug's horse before leading it across. We noticed a small flock of birds nested in a tree, and somebody identified them as Chakta Birds, which react very well to politeness and respect. We spoke with them and they were very pleasant. Apparently the trolls have been feuding with the Chakta birds.
We entered the moot and spoke with Creb the leader and his mate Sashia and their child Zoya. Apparently the women and children of the village have not had any problems with the Chakta birds, just the men. We informed the children that the young children that the Chakta birds could speak to them (telepathically), and they agreed to befriend the birds. I noticed that the birds had several gems, which I felt was unusual and interesting.
We spent a day or two getting Frug setup, assuring that the moot was going to be able to supply everything he needed (there was a good supply of stone nearby). In the middle of the 2nd night, we heard a commotion, Several of the Genhis the moot had recently acquired as herdbeasts gave birth. Baby Genhis are very ravenous and dangerous, unfortunately the moot had been keeping the genhis indoors at night. I led one of the baby genhis out of the village and the others knocked unconscious 3 of the remaining 4 (the other was killed). The moot only had one member killed, it was Zolyaki who had bought the genhis some weeks previously, and the moot did not seem to consider his loss a great tragedy.. The Moot considered immediately harvesting all the Genhis the very next day, but I argued that Genhis herding was very fine, you just had to be very, very careful about it. Rule number one is don't keep the Genhis inside your own house. Rule number two, manage the births carefully. Rule number three, drive the young far away, Rule four, collect the young once they grow enough to be placide. When we left to return to Throal they were still considering if the Moot really wanted to try to herd Genhis.
On the way back to Throal we saw some magnificent Great Bear cubs. Statistics:Posted by ChrisDDickey — Sat Nov 14, 2020 11:57 pm
