A posting for adventurers drew me to an Elven Wizard by the name of Dalyor, he was to bring a group of adepts to Sosanopa to meet with a Jasper Tahn about a retrieval mission. The group was filled out by Redsun, Nib, and Bloodbeat.
After making our way to Sosanopa and the residence of Jasper, we were greeted by his man-servant Sebas, and never met our employer. These spoke greatly of who we worked for, a scholar exploring for himself. Sebas explained that the Scythan Mountains contained a vault with magical treasures, we were to be it's raiders. He gave us an amulet to bypass the great bronze door sealing it, and directions to the location.
This should have been enough to make a plan of action, but the casters had been whipped into a frenzy at the books within Jasper's home, and felt it was more worthwhile to continue questioning after the books. Eventually, we gathered some more information and made our way across the river and into the mountains. We were set upon by cockatrice in the mountain paths, they attempted to take advantage of our position and attack from behind. We allowed them to close within our range and dealt with them swiftly.
Continuing to the vault location, it was not very difficult to find the entrance. We began into the compound containing the vault cautiously. As we pushed further in, the wizards indicated that a presence was approaching from behind. We held the choke point of the hall we had just exited, giving the casters and Redsun enough room to move and gain range. Ghouls quickly came into view. Through spell, bolt, and spear we defeated them handily.
This brought distraction to our casters again. After backtracking a bit, we finally arrived at the bronze door. Withth a more than suitable amount of conference on the magical properties of the door, the amulet was used to open the vault. Inside we found a triumvirate of books. One was the book we sought, the other two seemed to be wizardly and nethermantic in nature. This generated the detailed review and exchange one would normally see in youths with illicit illustrations. Finally we began our trek back to Sosanopa and received compensation from our employer.
While it is said that the victorious warrior wins first and then goes to war, some of our casters may heed this as a parable of readiness too much. There is much that can be learned through action and by taking advantage of the opportunities chaos and the unknown provide. While the fear and support spells were well timed and helped to win the day, I felt that they may have been a bit like a slack bowstring. Acceptable in combat, but something to be examined once you have a free moment off the battlefield. Redsun has grown into a devout adherent of his discipline. Surveying the battlefield with the paths of bolts laid atop it, continually finding the right position to make use of his weapon.
