My research into the very useful gloves has lead me to head to Travar for a deed I needed to complete. I had to find who created these fine gloves and then show them my thanks and appreciation.
I gathered a group of adventurers for the journey Karl, Dvarim, Xevious, and an adept I had not met before an Obsidiman Nethermancer named Daldorer, since Dubhan had not been available and I wanted more magical support than Dvarim, though he is coming a long way as an elementalist.

I had planned our trip to take us around the Servous Jungle. Dvarim wished to travel on a boat as it would take a bit off of our travel times, I conceded the point to him and we booked travel as far down the river as we could go.

Leaving from Skyreader island we traveled down the river to 48.17 and got off and followed the river south towards 48.18 and then from there we traveled into the hills just outside the jungles. The hills were beautiful and I contacted many an elemental while we were traveling using my safe path talent. They were always friendly and warned me of dangers that they knew of potentially. The hills stretched on for a few days and Charlie was at home in them while we rode along. Camping in the wilds was wonderful, and Dvarim was doing a good job as our quartermaster. Karl and the others were keeping an eye out for danger.

We came upon a River at 48.21 a few hours of travel from the hills we were into and into the grassy plains. We needed to cross the river so Dvarim built a raft to do so. From here we traveled to the south east along the plains but looking around the jungles. 48.22, to 45.23 when we ended up in some hills and plains. The Flora and Fauna out this way is ripe for exploration. I go on and on about how much fun this adventure is so. We have not run into real threats as my safe path talents helps to guide us around them. We finally get to about 40.26 and we are a good distance from Throal now! Image that two years ago the gates opened and here we are all the way to Travar. It took us a good 21 days to get here, give or take a few days. I mean how can you really count the days when you are traveling in such good company and surrounded by such beauty.

The sight of Travar is something to behold, you can see the barrier of air and fire far off in the distance. This is one of the only barriers of air and fire that held through the scourge from what the earthdawn reported. It is beautiful and terrifying as I watched a bird fly into the barrier and simply explode into a cloud of ash.

When we approached the river, the river was being fished! Travar was opened?! Well they are sort of opened, they have a tube of Orichalcum that they travel through and a singular gate called the Thundergate. We had to pay a fee to get inside and another to cross the river, small things of no consequence.

The city was immense. It had a circular outer area and an interior walls with five sided, most likely forming the points of a pentagram. We were invited to the home of a local merchant group Jamile, Padimis & liminor Firecairn. House Dumorjen on Founders Way. We stayed with them while in the city and they are going to get their air ships up and running and are seeking Trade Routes to Throal, Dvarim told them that he would put them into contact with them.

As for my gloves and the reason for heading out all this way. The Dragon forge was our first stop, the people there were very helpful and told us of some crafters that could have made the gloves. We sought them out, but we hit a dead end. That was when I decided to look into the leather of the gloves, I know they had come from a belloid collector, and they had an arena so we went there to look for exotic animals. They told us of an adventuring group that was known to have killed some collectors. We sought them out and found out where they sold the leather, from there we found the enchanter that crafted these wonderful gloves. Bram Lowman was his name. The others said he was a creepy sort of fellow, but I don't see it. He is an excellent enchanter and he even took in a small boy after the boy's family died. The boy lived across the way from him and he is teaching the boy his trade.

Meeting Bram he asked a task of me, so I went and did the simply favor for such wonderful enchanter and completed the deed.

Librarian note -- We asked William to expand upon the favor that was required of him. He simply said the man wanted a trinket that came from Throal, to use to impress others. We pushed the issue we could tell that William is lying, but that is all he would say on the matter. We accepted his answer and added this note here. We feel he did something that he does not want to admit to, and could be seen as illegal.

We stayed a few more days in town and took the airship back. We sample the local fare in the town and Karl's bear was amusing to see walking around the city.

William Carver
Scout, Thief, Journeyman

One other point of interest that I almost forgot to mention. Most of the citizens of Travar speak and read in human. The shopkeepers and the more upper class folks speak a dwarven Dialect as they did not have the book of tomorrow when the city sealed itself off from the outside world.

Or, The Scales of Justice

William Carver, Scout and general ombudsman, had to show appreciation to the creator of his Very Useful Gloves; such was the deed required to add more power to the Thread had already woven to this wonderful item. A bit of preliminary research indicated that the creator of the gloves might be from the far away city of Travar - a place unheard of since before the Scourge. And so, we made preparations and set off, we intrepid explorers and representatives of the great nation of Throal: Xeviouz, Karl, Daldorer (further representing the Badasumm Liferock), and myself.

I will elide the details of the overland journey. There are enough journals in this august library that describe the plains surrounding Throal and the flora and fauna therein. Suffice it to say that we made good time and were not unduly harassed along the way.

We eventually came to the great Byrose river, which flows north from the foothills of the Dragon Mountains, until it empties into the southern reach of the Serpent. Here, we encountered other namegivers - Humans, for the most part. Fisher folk who were working the river. Civilization! We convinced them to take us to Travar in the traditional way, which is to say that we convinced them with coin. More on that later.

In our journey to this city, we had already seen its great protective dome, a thing of True Fire which glowed so powerfully it was visible from fifty miles away, and at daytime at that. It was not blinding, but was certainly notable and present. Truly a great working. We were told that the Thunder Gate was the only entrance to the city, at present, and that made sense to me. If the Ward was still up, it would not be easy to poke holes through it.

In fact, as we approached the gate, we found that the locals had built a quite ingenious, though hideously expensive, shaft through the ward by way of creating an orichalcum corridor. There were soldiers, or guards, I'm not sure which, to meet us at the gate. They were quite polite, especially upon hearing that we had come all the way from Throal. Their commander, in particular, a human gentleman by the name of Jamile Firecairn, indicated that his uncles would be most pleased to meet us and offered us the hospitality of their home. He also warned us to haggle, and haggle hard. Travar was a city defined by coin.

And by the Passions, how right he was! Tens of silver per person to enter their city? This was an 'inspection fee' that was assessed as a tax and did not include the per day rites of passage. Nonsense! Calumny! Perfidy! I gave the inspector a good talking to and we worked the price down to something still inordinately expensive but manageable.

Attached: Copy of William's map of the city, locations marked.

I'll leave it to the others to describe the layout of the city, and will only say that it was a quite tidy hub and spoke design with an arena in the middle, a pentagonal wall surrounding the inner district, and broad avenues creating the arcs of development. We visited various places to track down William's gloves' creator. Of note was the Dragon's Forge, a lovely community of weaponsmiths and enchanters with an attached storefront. I met a human enchanter by the name of Bashira who had a good head on her shoulders and did good work. I should like to correspond with her more often.

In taking advantage of Jamile's offer of hospitality, we also made arrangements with the Firecairn family. They were overland traders before the Scourge and, predictably, had suffered during the isolation required by that terrible time. I believe both their fortunes and Throal's will be improved if we begin to establish trade between our great nation and their quite decent city, and have begun to make introductions to that effect. Travar's airships, like Throal's, were being repaired and refurbished and crews had been practicing for maiden flights. We had the good fortune of riding one of those merchant airships back to Throal, to start the introductions and trade negotiations. Padimis and Liminor Firecairn of House Dumorjen (Jamile's uncles) will be most pleased.

William, meanwhile, was able to track down one Bram Loman, the rather creepy and socially awkward creator of the gloves. He seems to have enchanted the deed into the glove just to have someone come and do him a favor. Hmph. A bad look for all of us. Anyway, he had some business to settle with the slave-owning and all around predatory merchant [/i]Filman Potts.[/i]

To that end, we redacted and then William was able to redacted. Bram was happy, William's deed was done, and we sailed the winds back to Throal.

William Carver must track down the creator of his Thread Item gloves and offer "appropriate thanks and appreciation for the gloves".

So far he has learned that none of the enchanters of Throal created them, nor do any have any idea who might have done so. The creator is not from Throal, and there is no record of the creator nor the gloves in the Library of Throal. William also knows that the creator must still be alive, because he has been assured that if the creator was not alive, the deed would change to something else that was still possible (possibly to visit the creators grave).

Tracking down and examining the other artifacts recovered along with gloves, there are indications that those items were made far away in the fabled city of Travar (which last anybody heard, was not yet fully open). The only remaining hope is to travel to Travar, see if it is open, and if so, the entire investigation will need to be done again, in the hopes that this item (or it's owner) also came from that city.

My good friend William Carver asks for a group of adepts to assist him with a quest. He is looking for some information on his new fancy gloves. Also along on the adventure are Dvarim my long time friendly Weapon Smith, Karl Tommsson the Archer Extraordinaire, and a new person I have never meet. Daldorer the Obsidiman Nethermancer.
We meet at the gates of Throal and head out talking about catching a boat ride down the river as far as a big lake. We are able to get a ride down river for a 3 day ride. THen we hike. We are headed south around the Servos Jungle. We are able to find good camping spots every night thanks the the excellent navigational skills of William. We have some game and always find fresh water. 2 river crossings are uneventful. As we are a couple days away from Travar, at night we can see the dome of Travar glow. Asking Daldorer what that means, he says it is a dome of fire over the city signifying a Citadel.
We reach a river at 41.26, there are fishing boats on the river. We try to flag one down to get a ride across. We get a boat to come over and give us a ride, he tells us some interesting facts about the area. One was you should always haggle when buying. The river we are crossing is the Byrose River.
Thunder gate is the only gate open in Travar. We are meet by an official named Jamel Firecairn, he invites us to his house to meet his uncles. He instructs us to House Dumorjen on Founders Way and gives us a note to provide to the butler there. We will be welcomed there.
Jamel tells us we have to enter the city through Tent City, to access the Thunder Gate. And don't let them charge us anything more than 20 silver to enter the city. We make our way to the tent city and gate and sure enough the slimy Human tries to cheat us. They give Karl some grief about his bear Ruben but we get in. Dvarim talks him in circles and soon we are in for half of what he was asking.
We are searching around for weapons smiths so William can get the information he is looking for. We end up at a forge talking to a Bashara, Human female enchanter. After some discussion, he gets some leads on where to look next and we leave. We head over to the house we were directed to. We are welcomed in at what appears to be Happy Hour. Padimis & liminor Firecairn are the Uncles of Jamel and they welcome us in. Padimis is the elder brother and welcomes us to stay with him at his house. There is some discussion about the Bear but in the end they allow Karl and the bear to stay in the garden area.
We are offered a room each, baths and dinner. Over dinner we discuss many things that we have seen on the outside of Travar. The brothers are asking about the villages, towns and cities we have come across in our travels and ask about what there needs might be and there locations. We advice them to send a delate or 2 with us when we return to Throal to establish trade relations with Throal and open up trade routes. THey offer to fly us back on an Air Ship. We all graciously accept.
THe next couple days we are looking for the particular crafter, enchanter that William needs. We sem to be running into a dead end so then Daldorer does a Pattern Craft check and makes a suggestion on maybe we look for a leather worker who is also an enchanter. We are looking for a Beloid leather worker. We go to the great arena and ask around. We get the name of a group of adepts that fits the description. They had bragged about hunting some Beloids a year or so back.
We head over to the pub that this group is rumored to hang out at. It turns out this group did a big hunt of Beloids and returned with skins. THey sold the bulk of the skins to a local Talismonger named Rapius. We head out and look for Rapius and sample some of the local street food and drink. Dvarim makes small talk with Rapius and asks about the gloves. Rapius directs us to an enchanter that lives in a tower on the edge of the city named Bram Lowman. We bribe him for the address.
Knock on the door of the tower, a young apprentice answers, we ask for Bram and we are invited in. After some discussion the guys starts usng some flowery talk to say slavery. I am very putoff by this and leave. Karls bear is better company than this guy.
The boys come out of the tower with a name. Karl Potts. William is supposed to get a couple of pattern items from him. We check into this Bram guy, then check into the Karl Potts guy. Potts seems to be a bad person and is holding something over Bram. We decide, reluctantly to liberate the items requested by Bram, night mission, sleath. William goes in, the rest of us wait out back, just in case of trouble. William goes in, a few minutes later he comes out. We leave. Next day William delivers the items to Bram. 3 days later we leave on an air ship back to Throal.

The trip was long. We did soooo much walking. After taking a Riverboat for a small stretch of river, we walked the remainder of what William counted out to be around 400 miles. The only upside was the amount of training and playing I could do with Reuben. Also having a giant plushy Bear pillow is the best aspect of being a Beastmaster. That and having a ferocious Bear stay with you in combat, covering one's back. I look forward to doing more training with him. Between getting back from North of the Serpent and leaving for Travar, I was only able to comfortably teach him to Stay. As was pointed out to me by friends from the stables, telling a Bear to not attack is more important when leaving in a city, than telling him to attack. The rest of the way to Travar was mostly long, intersected only by some creatures and minor Horror Constructs, but no sights of Namegivers.

This all changed when we crossed a Hill and saw a giant Glowing Dome in the distance. Daldorer told us that this glowing half ball is the city's citadel-like protection for the plague.
We approached and got to a river, which was smaller than the Serpent, but still far too wide for us to cross. We hailed near a passing riverboat. The Captain from a Riverboat didn't understand Throalic, but luckily William and Xeviouz speak Human. I am slightly embarassed to not speak the language of my people, but a couple weeks after we left the town in which everybody spoke Human but me, the others eventually stopped making fun of it.

The captain pointed us towards the "Thundergate", which is the only opened gate to Travar. Approaching we are greeted by a Mounted Troll, looking all official and asking us regarding our business. I introduce us and tell him that we have come all the way from Throal. He says his name is Jamile Firecairn, and his uncles, Padimis & liminor Firecairn, would like to greet us and talk to us. He tells us the way to "House Dumorjen" on Founders Way, and to not pay more than 20 silver for entry to the city.
Apparently Travar made a successful business out of people entering. What's even more astonishing is that the so called "tax assessors" are seemingly allowed to make up their own prices and probably keep the difference.
The tax assessor also tried to convince me to leave Reuben outside of the town, however we were allowed in under the condition that everything Reuben does counts as me doing it, judicially.

Entering this huge was an immense experience. There must have been hundreds of thousands of people. It entirely overwhelmed me, to see so many people within a city, instead of spread out over dozens and hundreds of smaller chambers.

The Firecairn family were very successfull Import/Export merchants with a fleet of Air Ships that were at that point getting readied to take up trade again. They were eager to bring us back to Throal on the premise of us introducing them to the various locations around Throal, from Salt Cellar to Irondelve and of course Throal itself.

Several days of Research brought us to Bram, the gloves' creator. He did hold a grudge against another merchant, Potts, who after even more research seems to be one the worst guys in town. He had cheated Bram at some point, though we did not find out the nature of what went down. What we did find out after pressing Bram hard for a couple days, was that the items we wanted to steal were two Pattern Items of Bram. The retrieval of these two Pattern Items were the gift of thanks and appreciation that Bram wanted, and what would be the Deed for William to fulfill.

Again we did some more research and came up with the plan to first retrieve the balance scales from Potts' mansion, then on the next morning shoot the purse off Potts' belt.
William sneaked into the building, climbing the walls, while we waited in the ally near the back entrance to cover his escape route. He returned a couple minutes later, landing in the most graceful way possible between us in the ally after jumping down from the 13 yard high ceiling. Besides the scales he had also already gotten the purse, an additional lockbox, and a huge stack of papers.
Bram was delighted over getting his Pattern Items back and considered William's Deed fulfilled.

Back with the Firecairns we spent a couple days caroussing through Travar and doing some shopping. The travel to Throal was surprisingly refreshing and quick from the height of an airship.

GM: Chris D
Rating: 7M.
Eligible Characters: ECR 6 to 8.
Mission organized by: William Carver.

Rumor: http://www.fasagames.com/forum/viewtopi ... =58&t=1842

Road Trip.
