The Dwarf Army Book has lots of information about the Dwarven figures, from unit cost, spells, and the history of the race. Below is a 2000 point sample army. This is just a framework, and you can replace any unit with a unit that works for your scenario. It includes a leader, infantry, calvary, ranged, and caster units.
One thing to keep in mind when building an army is to keep it balanced. If you have too many ranged and not enough infantry, your opponent could easily move through your front line and attack the ranged units.

Here is a sample Dwarf army, built using 2000 points:
The first unit to select is the Clan Veterans (Model 4403). This unit is 12 models, or 4 stands, for 324 points.This unit will hit once upon a successful attack, and has medium armor and a shield, allowing for better protection from hits.
The next unit to select is the Heavy Clan Veterans (Model 4401). This unit is 12 models, 4 stands, for 360 points. This unit will hit once upon a successful attack, and has heavy armor and a shield, allowing for better protection from hits. Because of this unit’s heavy armor, they move slower than the Clan Veterans.
Next is the Dwarven Strike Force (Model 4407). This unit is 12 models, 4 stands, for 192 points. They have light armor and are skirmishers. Some battles are won or lost on how well skirmishers do their job. Select 2units for this build.
The next selection is Dragon Thunder (Model 4414).This is 1 model and stand, and is 389 points. This is an artillery unit, and is not mobile. It is able to pivot 30 degrees, and has a crew of 4. Because of this crew, the Dragon Thunder does 4 hits, one per crew.
The next unit to select is the Dwarf Priest (Model 4428). This is 3 models and 1 stand, and is 180 points. This is a caster unit, and has a list of spells available to it. The Dwarven Priests can provide support from either the back or front lines.
The last unit for selection is the Crossbowmen (Model 4405). This is a ranged unit, and can be used if placed in the middle or back of the battlefield. This unit is 12 models, 4 stands, and is 300 points.
