New units planned ?

Hello,

I would like to know if some new units are planned for existing armies. I would love to have new demons and icewitches for Isthak !

Hi Arhnayel,

Nothing is currently in progress (other than any remaining troops that are yet to be recast). There are plans for new miniatures, but that will be something that happens over the next few years, and not specifically Isthak. :)

Will you accept fanwork for new units ? It France, some players created homerules, new units and characters for "home playing" and I was wondering if Ral Partha and Redbrick would be interested in these.

Possibly, Arhnayel. I need to do some more DW planning work first, however, and that's on hold at the moment until after Gen Con (which is this week). A short rest afterwards to recover, then back into the fray again.

Before talking about new units and fanwork, i would like to have the missing units, which were never produced by hobbyproducts. For example the dal daroth demons or rolb, the goblin hero.

And I'm still waiting for the southern humans and the lizardmen which are refered to in the other armybooks.

GENERAL DISCUSSION/AIM.

The first aim is to add more variety and use minis that are not often used.


A lot of units are that are powerful and/or rare/Unique are in basic categories.
=> The topic aim of this topic is to find a way to limit the recruitment of these troups.

As an added problem, some heroes are likely powerful and/or rare/Unique and in the same category.
Some Heroes have also connections with some units.
=> The aim of this topic is to find a way to separate basic and elite unit/heroes and regroup Heroes with the same kind of Units.

Some armies are composed without real basic Units.

The aim of this topic is to find a way to separate basic and elite unit/heroes and regroup Heroes with the same kind of Units.

Be careful:
One of the problem that can arise is that more categories means more complexity and less liberty in the choice of armies.

=> Popidus opinion: more Categories are better than more restrictions.

PS: Arhanyel, I know that you doesn't agree on the majority of these but, well, I made the job so let the community enjoy it as an option or house rules... ;)

NEW UNITS – DARK ELF ARMY.
=========================================================================================


Objectives : to add more variety and use minis that are not often used.

Remark : this army is too recent. Very few ideas to add more unit.


Dark Elf - New unit -1. add a Demon unit Torgogs.
Background : compliant.
Minis : Use the 4212 Torgogs. If you take 2 units you can use the open/close mouths versions to simulate the fact that there are full or not.
Game : To add variety. Same rules.


Dark Elf - New unit/spell -2. add the Demon unit Dairecoons and the Dairecoon commander spell.
Background : compliant.
Minis : Use the 4213 Dairecoons.
Game : To add variety. Same rules.

NEW UNITS – ELF ARMY.

Objectives : to add more variety and use minis that are not often used : Druid coven, Tree elemental Forest spirit.

Remark : very few ideas to add more unit for the Elf army.


New unit/spell -1 : Add the Druidic spell of the Empire “Summon Tree Elemental” for the Loreaths.
Background : compliant with the Elf army.
Minis : to permit the use this beautiful mini.
Game : to give an invocation for the Elf army. To add variety. Same Rules.


New unit/spell -2 : Add the Druidic spell of the Empire “Summon Forest Sprites” for the Loreaths
Background : compliant with the Elf army.
Minis : to permit the use this beautiful mini.
Game : to give an invocation for the Elf army. To add variety. Same Rules.


New unit -3 : Young Loreath Dragon. In the Ilah Ris category.
Background : compliant with the Elf army with some twist.
Minis : Use the 4108 Imperial Dragon with a Elf rider.
Game : to give a cheaper Dragon (230) for the Elf army than the Loreath Dragon. To add variety. Same rules.


New unit -4 : Druidic coven. In the Treemen category. Restrictions : no Ilah Ris Unit. Only 1 in the army.
Background : compliant with the Elf army with some twist. Elven druids if you paint their barb in green.
Minis : Use the 4125 Druid Coven. To use this unit more often.
Game : To add variety. Same rules.


New unit -5 : The Mob. In the Ilah Ris category. Restrictions : a majority of Ilah Ris pointst. Only 1 in the army.
Background : compliant with the fact that Humans are slaves for the Elves. Intersting to create scenarios.
Game : To add variety.
Minis : Use the 4118 The Mob. To use this unit more often.
Game : To add variety. Same rules, same spells.

NEW UNITS – EMPIRE ARMY.
=========================================================================================


Objectives : to add more variety and use minis that are not often used. To play with more Counties.

Remark : the Empire has already a lot of choice.


Empire – New Unit -1: A- add another commander, mounted,
with 32 Movement Points with 3 Hit Points, a cavalry spear, a handweapon, a melee-skill of 2 and amour values of 3/6 (like the Noble Lancers) and costing 110-120 points, just to have a basic commander for "little" cavalries.
Arhanyel’s proposition transferred in “New unit” topic.
Popidus: OK.


Empire - New unit -2: Add Minotaurs to the East Counties.
Background : compliant with the “Bull” flavor of this county.
Minis : Use the 4024 Minotaurs. To use this unit more often.
Game : To add variety. Same rules.

Game : Category Beastmen. To add variety. Same rules..


Ishtak new unit -2 : Ice Rock Giant.
Background : compliant.
Minis : Dwarf’s 4412 Rock Giant. Paint it like an Ice Giant Warrior in white and blue…
Game : Category Ice Giants. To add variety. Same rules.


Ishtak new unit -3 : Frost Giant.
Background : compliant.
Minis : Ork’s 4010 Myrlak. Paint it like an Ice Giant Warrior in white and blue…
Game : Category Ice Giants. To add variety. Same rules.


Ishtak new unit -4 : Ice witches on polar bears.
Background : compliant.
Minis : 4205 Polar bear riders with Gargoyle riders as riders the leader.
Game : Category Beastmen. To add variety. Same rules. Cost +20 as the riders are more powerful.


Ishtak new unit -5 : Polar bears pack with a ice witch.
Background : compliant.

Game : Category Gaeta. To add variety. Same rules.


Dwarf new unit -2 : Giant Warrior.
Background : compliant.
Minis : Ishtak’s 4223 Ice Giant Warrior. Paint it like a rock Giant in human colours.
Game : Category Gaeta. To add variety. Same rules.


Dwarf new unit -3 : Armoured Giants.
Background : compliant. To stress the importance of Ore and Armour in Dwarf culture.
Minis : Orks’ 4019 Troigars. Paint it like Giant in iron armours.

Minis : Ishtak’s 4207 Snow Barbarians. Paint it like Eagle Veterans. To use these beautiful minis. Polyvalent shooters in the Eagle Clan.
Game : Category Hordes Veteran – Eagle Clan. To add variety. Same rules.


Thain new unit -2 : Lions pack.
Background : compliant. It’s the Lion clan…
Minis : Use Muryan 6 times.
Game : Category Hordes Veteran – Lion Clan. To add variety. Same rules as the Ork’s Bear pack.


Thain new unit -3 : Gar’ydwens hunters.
Background : compliant. Barbarians who hunt the big monsters of their isles. Rebels from the Empire.
Minis : Empire’s 4126 Mammoth’s hunters. Paint it like Lion Veterans. To use these beautiful minis. When the daggers are not sufficient use trunks…
Game : Category Hordes Veteran – Lion Clan. To add variety. Same rules.

What's the point ? Mixing all the different armies into one ? Where's the fun in that ? Where's the tactical interest if all players play the same army ?

Adding those units will cause many major balance issues (e.g. units with no morale...), especially when the units come from restricted categories. Please keep in mind that each 8 armies of Demonworld is unique and should stay that way.

If someone wants to add units in an army, please add something we don't already have in another one and please add only units which add fun and tactical options to the army. And think of the balance issues...

**More Fun**
I want to play with a maximum of unit and I like the concept of a Thainite army based only on the Wolf Clan that gets all the Units with wolves...
Same thing for other propositions.

**More Tactical options**
Well, with this kind of new additions you can play your army on another way...

**Balance issues**
Units without morale : see the Driver rules... If the Driver is killed Animals have a chance to rout or be impetuous...
Other units : there are in already restricted categories.
Of course, if you only want to play Demonworld as a tournament game I agree with you, it's not allways balanced, therefore it's in a forum to be discussed.

**Conclusion**
I also post here suggestions than can be adusted or taken as OPTIONAL RULES or simply take as HOUSE RULES.
